Frequently Asked Questions

The Trek About™ Cloak looks like a coat. What makes it a cloak?

The Trek About™ Cloak is carried on your back like a cloak but utilizes a patented (Patent: US 11,083,278 B2) suspension strap that wraps around your torso to distribute the cloak's weight. The suspension strap does not interfere with backpack straps and allows for the removal of backpacks without undoing the cloak.

How easy is the Trek About ™ Cloak to wear?

The best way to put on the Trek About ™ Cloak is to wrap the suspension strap under your arms and across your back and clasping in front of your waist. While leaving your arms out of the sleeves slide your pack on under the cloak. This takes a little more effort but once the cloak is attached you won't need to undo it until you're done with your activity. Your pack slides on and off underneath without having to undo the cloak.

How can I get my arms in the sleeves without removing the cloak from my back?

The patented (Patent: US 11,083,278 B2) design of the Trek About ™ Cloak uses wide sleeve openings that allow you to just reach back, pull one side of the cloak forward, then insert your arm into the sleeve. Repeat for the other side.

What kind of backpacks will the Trek About ™ Cloak work with?

The Trek About ™ Cloak works best with small to medium size packs of up to about 3500 cubic inches or 60 liters. The limiting factor is the weight of the pack and how easily it can be placed on the shoulder using only one arm. The other arm has to keep the cloak from getting caught between the pack and the back. Cross shoulder messenger bags and sling style packs have to go over the head and might interfere with the cloak's suspension strap attachment point but would be fine worn over the cloak.

Will the Trek About™ Cloak cover my legs?

No, for long distance hiking comfort, the Trek About™ Cloak is a mid-thigh length garment. You will still need to wear rain pants and/or gaiters for heavy rains or rains of long duration. If the conditions call for occasional intense showers, keeping your rain pants on in combination with the ability to don and doff the Trek About™ Cloak quickly will keep you more comfortable and is far superior to constantly stopping to retrieve or return a raincoat from your pack.

Can I use mid-layers with the Trek About™ Cloak?

Yes. If you want to be able to remove mid-layers without undoing the Trek About™ Cloak, put your mid-layer on over the cloak's fastened suspension strap but under your pack. You'll have to stop and remove your pack to remove your mid-layer, but you would have to do that anyway to put away your mid-layer. At least you can do so without undoing the Trek About ™ Cloak,
